The Kitchen House: A Novel

Orphaned while locally available ship from Ireland, seven-year-old Lavinia lands on the means of a tobacco ranch where she is to live and work with the slaves of the kitchen house. Under the care of Belle, the ace’s ill-conceived girl, Lavinia turns out to be profoundly attached to her embraced family, however she is separate from them by her white skin.
